Four months in and already halfway to their own ice rink, Bowling Green Curling Club used Give to raise funds.
The Cause: Their Own Ice Rink
The Bowling Green Curling Club has introduced over a thousand people to the sport of curling; a bright spot in the cold, dark winter of Northwest Ohio.
With an enthusiastic and active membership, the club has been in existence since 1968 at a local ice arena. With the sport of curling growing across the country, a group of passionate curlers decided it was time to build a permanent home where we could offer more opportunities to introduce curling to the people of Northwest Ohio.
Campaign Goal: $200,000
Ice hockey and ice skating are incompatible with the rink needs of curling. The club wants to purchase and maintain their own facility and bring back curling events on the weekend.
This campaign involves the community not just in Bowling Green but the sport nationally, journalists are taking note.
“The site will have room for four sheets of ice that the club won’t have to share with skaters or hockey [players]. Because of reduced ice time at the BGSU ice arena, the club had lost its weekend curling and time for its youth program.” Jan Larson McLaughlin, BG Independent News
How Bowling Green Curling Club Used Give:
The Curling Club has a simple WordPress site that implemented a Give form with the progress bar in their sidebar.
They are able to accept donations online from curlers across the United States.
“Curling, yes curling (that quirky Olympic sport with rocks and brooms played on ice) is a growing sport across the United States, and Give has helped us to raise funds from near and far.” Shannon Orr
Campaign Results: Nearly $100k
After just four months the Bowling Green Curling Club are almost halfway to their campaign goal! It’s encouraging to see a sport that teaches strategy, encourages competition, strengthens etiquette, and is open to all ages thrive.
