As part of the Community Interview Series on WordPress.tv, John Parkinson recently interviewed Matt Cromwell, Head of Support and Community Outreach.
We’re big believers in WordPress Community Outreach at WordImpress. We are all involved in giving back through sponsorship, meetup organization, WordCamp organization, speaking, and contributing to the support forums.
John reached out to Matt after having seen our article called “What does it mean to be part of a community?“

We generally talk about people more on GiveWP.com because community has a great overlap with both WordPress enthusiasts and nonprofit organizations.

The “higher participation rate” in giving back within the WordPress community is what John finds most appealing about WordPress. We agree. The WordPress Community is special.
Matt on WordCamp Attendance in 2016:
Matt’s favorite WordCamp is San Diego. He and Devin attended WordCamp Miami earlier this year. We plan to attend WordCamp Los Angeles. Devin will be speaking at Pittsburg and we’re planning on attending WordCamp US.

Matt on Advanced WordPress
The group started in San Diego in 2012. This group was one of the primary ways Matt became involved in WordPress.
“I think they latched onto a niche — a need — that was really obvious. People wanted to be able to advanced subjects in WordPress. We just passed a milestone of over 20,000 members in the [Facebook] Group.”
