GiveWP 2.18 - Classic donation form template

I’m excited to announce that GiveWP version 2.18 is live and available for your website today. This new version introduces a brand new form template that we call “Classic.”

New: The GiveWP Classic Donation Form Template

The Classic form template is gorgeous and full-featured. We think you’ll love using this for your next campaigns. It supports your favorite add-ons, like Recurring Donations and Fee Recovery. Plus, our new “Donation Summary” is featured prominently.

New: Payment Gateway API

GiveWP currently supports 20+ different payment gateways that support dozens of different currencies. The struggle is that each of those gateways are coded very differently and support different features of GiveWP core.

In order to ensure better consistency across all our gateways, we’ve implemented a new Payment Gateway API. This allows our gateways to be built far faster with less code while also providing reliability and consistency in how payments, currencies, donors and more are handled.

What else is in 2.18?

This is the short version of our changelog for 2.18. See Github for the full development version.

New Core Contributors!

This release was possible with the help of two new GiveWP contributors.

Jessica Thomas

Jessica is a new full-time developer on Team Give! She lives and works in Chicago and is helping us with a lot of frontend polish and UI improvements. We’re excited to welcome Jessica to the team!

Martins Luters

Martin noticed that there were some inconsistencies in how we logged errors related to PayPal. So he rolled up his sleeves and gave us a fix for it! Martin lives in Latvia, and we’ve very thankful for his open source contribution!

The Future of GiveWP Forms

We’re very excited for the release of the Classic donation form template. So much so that we want to bring you more and more templates! But in order to do that, we need to make some fundamental changes to how our forms are built and generated.

We’re doing some deep developmental research to find out how best to implement a new way to build forms in GiveWP while knowing that you’ll most likely still have some “old” forms on your site that still need to work correctly.

It’s a challenging task but we’re working on it and will be communicating our progress mostly via our email newsletter, Facebook Community, and our public Feedback board.

Are you Already Using the Classic Donation Form Template?

Have you already updated to 2.18? Are you using the Classic form on your website? We’d love to hear what you think and see your forms in the comments below.

As always, we’d also love to tell your fundraising success story on our blog. If you’re having success with GiveWP, consider submitting it to us here.
