Accepting recurring donations with PayFast can help your organization’s fundraising efforts in many ways:

In the 2021 Data Commons report from Giving Tuesday, recurring donor gifts increased 2.2% year-over-year. This is a trend that is expected to continue. With the looming cost-of-living crisis, it’s more important than ever to ensure your organization is empowering your dedicated donors to give on a recurring basis.
In order to take advantage of PayFast recurring donations, and subsequently maximize your fundraising success, there are a couple of things you need to know.
PayFast Recurring Donations Requirements
The PayFast gateway fully supports the Recurring Donations add-on for accepting recurring donations with GiveWP.
In order to accept recurring donations with the PayFast gateway, you need:
- Installed and activated PayFast gateway add-on (version 2.0.0 or higher)
- Installed and activated Recurring Donations add-on (version 2.1.0 or higher)
- Successful connection to PayFast
That’s it! There is no additional configuration necessary to begin immediately accepting PayFast recurring donations.

Using PayFast with Other Payment Gateway and Currency Add-ons
Many of our GiveWP customers use different donation forms to accept donations into different bank accounts, depending on their organization’s needs.
Other Payment Gateways
If you’re using PayFast alongside another payment gateway, keep in mind that our Per Form Gateways Add-on will allow you to assign a payment gateway to a specific donation form, so you can designate your donations appropriately.
Currency Switcher
Currency Switcher is another GiveWP Add-on to consider when adding PayFast to your donations forms! With Currency Switcher, you can enable geolocation to ensure your donors are donating in their ideal currency based on their location. Or you could adjust the default currency for each of your GiveWP forms to ensure your donors are donating in the intended currency.
