Why WordPress is Great for Fundraising

First thing’s first: if you’re not already fundraising with WordPress, now’s the time. It’s the most affordable and flexible and powerful way to run your fundraising campaigns on your own website.

We feel we can really say that with confidence, because we did the research. Check out our full post and infographic on “Why WordPress is Perfect for Online Fundraising.”

Great Landing Pages Need Great Hosting

You can’t have a great website without solid hosting. While there are many options out there for nonprofits, we selected just a few to highlight for a few important reasons:

  • Offsite backups and the ability to easily restore a website
  • Updated cURL versions, PHP versions, MySQL versions (the code base that WordPress needs to function properly)
  • Varying levels of managed WordPress experience and/or onboarding tools
  • Live staging environment to securely test updates or changes to your website

Liquid Web

Very good hardware, pricing, and onboarding. They offer nonprofit discounts as well.

WP Engine

One of the earliest companies to really excel with a “managed WordPress” package. They also have nonprofit discounts if you ask.

Kinsta

More of a “premium” hosting service, but with reasonable pricing. Kinsta has powerful WordPress management and website migration packages.

Siteground

Very affordable with good hardware. This platform is a little more technical, so there isn’t as much hand-holding.

GoDaddy Managed WP Hosting

They have an easy-to-use onboarding process that allows you to create a basic website with a few clicks.

Great Landing Pages Need Great Page Builders

The Page Builder space is a bit crowded. We wrote about half a dozen that are very popular. But we recommend the following:

The WordPress Editor (aka “Gutenberg”)

The native editor for WordPress, aka “Gutenberg”, has become a full-featured layout editor that works great for basic landing pages.

Gutenberg has a lot of design options and a growing library of block-based plugins. But it is still very dependent on the stability of your theme. If you’re using Gutenberg, we recommend Astra Theme. So far, it’s been the most stable to use with Gutenberg and comes with a library of website starter templates.

If you want help building a landing page with Gutenberg, we have a tutorial for that. It also includes a few templates to choose from.

Elementor

Elementor has risen to be one of the most widely used and best rated page builders in the WordPress space. It makes beautiful, full-page designs easy to create. There are literally thousands of pre-made templates for free and paid to choose from.

Astra Theme also has Elementor Templates available.

The webinar showcases one basic page we built to highlight how flexible and powerful Elementor is.

Download the Elementor landing page template or get help using Elementor to build your own for Giving Tuesday Now in our tutorial.

Beaver Builder

We’ve been fans of Beaver Builder for years. They provide a streamlined and intuitive builder with a huge, generous community of users.

Astra Theme has Beaver Builder templates as well.
